The National Council Licensure Examination is a national examination that allows nurses to be licensed in the United States, Canada, and Australia. It was established in 1982, 2015, and 2020, respectively.
All applicants who wish to register as RNs in Canada have to pass the NCLEX-RN. This exam:
The test questions are administered using computerized adaptive testing (CAT). Everyone is given a question at an initial level. From that point, their progress on the exam depends on how well they perform.
The exam is over when 95% of the candidates’ performance can be determined to be above or below the passing standard. This applies regardless of how many items were answered and how much time was taken.
This course measures the competencies of entry-level registered nurses to ensure safe and effective practice.
The Regulatory Exam- Practical Nurse is a Canadian Practical Nurse exam that was developed by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). It has been in effect since January 2022. For these regulatory bodies, this exam replaces CPNRE.
All applicants who wish to register as RPN/LPNs or LPNs in Ontario and BC have to write and pass REx-PN. This exam:
The test questions are administered using computerized adaptive testing (CAT). Everyone is given a question at an initial level. From that point, their progress on the exam depends on how well they perform.
Computer/software determines whether a candidate passes or fails by using one of the following three rules: Maximum-Length Exam Rule, 95% Confidence Interval Rule, or Run-out–of-time Rule.
The REx-PN test plan contains detailed information about exam content and exam administration. It also includes item writing exercises. It is updated approximately every five years.
The REx-PN passing standard is the threshold at which the minimum level of competence is established to ensure that newly licensed practical nurses can practice at the entry-level. They are regularly evaluated to ensure that they reflect current practices in nursing.
Proficient Nursing’s mission is to transform International Educated Nurses into registered nurses through their knowledge, skills, and expert direction.
